What Duolingo score do you need for UBC?

For undergraduates, you must reach the minimum scores in a single sitting, and applicants for the 2027/2028 Winter Session must submit scores from tests taken on 1 January 2025 or later. The deadline to show you meet the English Language Admission Standard is 15 February.

Graduate applicants must have taken the test within the last 24 months when they submit the application. UBC accepts electronic delivery directly from Duolingo only: log in at englishtest.duolingo.com, open Results, choose Share Score and select University of British Columbia – Graduate Admissions (Grad. Certificate, Grad. Diploma, Master, PhD/Doctoral).

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS Academic at 6.5 with no part below 6.0, and the graduate page asks for 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each component.

The undergraduate page lists nine ways to meet the English Language Admission Standard, including completing Levels 600 and 650 of the UBC English Language Institute's English for Academic Purposes program, and points applicants who fall short to UBC's academic English development programmes. Fully proficient applicants who meet none of the nine options may request a waiver.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UBC programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
