How U of T handles Duolingo results

To avoid processing delays, do not send your results until you have your U of T applicant number. Then log in to your Duolingo English Test account, use the Send Results function and choose University of Toronto – Undergraduate; you will be asked to add your applicant number.

U of T accepts only official scores sent directly by the testing agency. Register for the test with the same first name, surname and date of birth as on your application, or your results cannot be matched. Results must arrive by your supporting documents deadline, and you are not penalised for an unacceptable result, so U of T encourages you to send every result as it becomes available.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS Academic at 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0.

If your Duolingo score is below 120

If you are academically qualified but do not yet meet the English requirement, U of T points you to its English language transition programmes, offered on all three campuses and running from six weeks to eight months. You may also be exempt from testing after four or more years of full-time study in a recognised Canadian school or an English-language school in a country where English is dominant.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your U of T programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
