What TOEFL score do you need for UC Riverside?

Graduate applicants may use an unofficial Test-Taker Score Report for the first review; if admitted, ETS must send official scores electronically to UCR code 4839. UCR does not accept the TOEFL ITP+ or MyBest scores. All graduate students employed as a Teaching Assistant or Associate In must meet the university's English proficiency requirements for student employment.

Undergraduates self-report scores on the UC application and, if admitted, send them only to the campus they plan to attend. UC takes only the highest composite score from a single sitting.

For comparison, UCR's graduate page sets IELTS Academic at 7 with no component below 6, and the UC undergraduate page sets IELTS at 6.5.

Neither page offers conditional admission. Graduate applicants can be exempt with a degree from an institution outside the US where English is the exclusive language of instruction. Undergraduates can also meet UC's requirement through routes such as ACT English Language Arts of 24 or a grade of C or better in a UC-transferable English composition course.
