What Duolingo score do you need for UMass Lowell?

The graduate standards page says each department sets its own English thresholds and that official scores must be sent directly by the testing agency to the Office of Graduate Admissions. First-year applicants may have Duolingo, IELTS or TOEFL waived if their school confirms English-medium teaching, or if they follow an IB, American or Cambridge curriculum. None of the pages states a Duolingo validity period, sets subscores or mentions teaching assistantships.

For comparison, the same pages set IELTS at 6.5 for undergraduates, engineering and sciences, and 7.0 for the Manning School of Business.

UMass Lowell works with ASC English to support international undergraduates who meet all admissions criteria but do not yet have the English level required. At graduate level, ASC English Level 6 is accepted by all departments as an alternative to a test score.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UMass Lowell programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
