What Duolingo score do you need for UMSL?

The English requirements policy says graduate teaching assistantships are awarded only to applicants who demonstrate sufficient oral English proficiency, and all instructional staff must meet Missouri's oral English standards and university policy. International graduate students generally may not teach in their first semester.

Graduate applicants seeking a waiver based on prior study must have graduated from a US institution or a recognised English-speaking country within the past two years. None of the pages gives a Duolingo validity period.

For comparison, UMSL sets IELTS Academic at 5.5 for undergraduates and recommends 6.5 for graduate applicants.

The policy lists completion of Level 112 at an ELS Language Center as another way to meet the requirement. If extraordinary circumstances such as conflict or test centre closure prevent testing, the admitting graduate programme may propose another way to assess your English.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UMSL programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
