Exceptions and what is not accepted

No certificate is needed for citizens of the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand (passport or ID as evidence), International Baccalaureate graduates (IB diploma), and graduates of a European high school, university or university of applied sciences whose official document clearly shows B2 or higher.

Medium-of-instruction letters from non-European universities are not recognised, and neither are certificates from platforms such as Duolingo, Babbel or OLS. For applicants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal or Nigeria that makes a test certificate the standard route. If your proof is not ready when you apply, you can email it to the admissions team by the start of the programme at the latest.

Master's example and how to check

The full-time International Business Management master's is taught 100% in English, leads to a Master of Arts in Business and runs for four semesters of 30 ECTS each. The page lists a non-EU tuition fee of EUR 726.72 per semester and links to the language certificate sheet rather than printing a score.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Kufstein programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol (HOK) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
