You should have taken and passed the test within two years of starting your course at Brighton. Your course page says which level applies.

If your Duolingo score is below the line
Brighton offers pre-sessional English courses, linked from the same page. PhD applicants from a UKVI majority English-speaking country, or with a degree from one dated within the last three years, may have their English assessed from their academic record.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Brighton programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
