How UF handles TOEFL scores

UF's ETS school code is 5812. Scores must be sent electronically by ETS; UF does not accept paper or unofficial copies, and you can confirm receipt in the application status portal. The graduate page says UF does not accept scores compiled from multiple tests to meet the English requirement.

The transfer page says score reports are valid for two years from the test date. The graduate pages do not state a validity period. Graduate exemptions, for example a year of degree study in the US or a degree from a country where English is the only official language, are at the department's discretion.

The transfer page gives only the 0 to 120 figure; new TOEFL reports also carry a 1 to 6 band score, explained in our TOEFL 2026 score scale guide.

For comparison, the graduate page sets IELTS Academic at 6.5, and the transfer page sets IELTS Academic at 6.0.

If your TOEFL score is below UF's level

The graduate catalog allows conditional admission through UF's English Language Institute (ELI) when an applicant has no, low or expired English scores. You then prove proficiency with an ELI exit certificate (or a qualifying TOEFL or IELTS score), due 10 calendar days before Summer and Fall classes start and 20 days before Spring. Missing that deadline prevents enrolment.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UF programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
