Exemptions from the test

UFred says an applicant may be exempted if at least one condition applies: a diploma or degree from an English-language institution, at least five years of study in an English-speaking country, at least five years of work in an English-speaking environment, a high score on a well-known standardised English test, completion of a well-known English language programme, or passing an oral interview run by university staff.

PTE Academic is not on UFred's list of accepted tests.

Programmes and academic entry

UFred's programmes include the Bachelor of Business Administration (online BBA), Bachelor of Computer Science, associate degrees, an MBA, an Accelerated MBA for business graduates and an Executive MBA. UFred's FAQ says the MBA needs an undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, while the Executive MBA has a flexible pathway for applicants without a degree.

UFred says admissions decisions are usually emailed within two weeks of a complete application.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UFred course page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where the University of Fredericton (UFred) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
