Undergraduate figures are from the University of London's entry requirements page. Postgraduate figures are from the Global MBA and MSc Data Science programme pages, and the LLB row from the LLB programme specification. Ways in without a test
For undergraduate study, the University considers school and post-school qualifications taught in English, such as the International Baccalaureate or a degree taught in English. If you miss the listed scores but can show your English another way, a test may not be needed; the page gives a reference from your employer about your professional use of English as an example. APTIS, Password English, Cambridge Advanced English and the City and Guilds Mastery award are also accepted.
For the Global MBA and MSc Data Science, at least 18 months of education or work experience conducted in English can meet the requirement instead of a test. Many undergraduate programmes also consider applicants aged 21 or over who do not fully meet the standard entry requirements.

Before you apply
The University says it cannot give personalised eligibility advice for fee-paying programmes during August, September and October because of application volume, and gives no advance advice for programmes without an application fee, so check your programme page and apply directly.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your University of London programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where the University of London's online degrees publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
