What IELTS score do you need for the University of Macau?

At bachelor's level IELTS 6.0 is not a hard entry minimum on UM's page. Applicants to programmes with English as the main teaching medium attend an interview to assess their English, and an IELTS band of 6.0 or above, the TOEFL scores above or IGCSE English at grade C or 5 lets you skip that interview. The page names Bachelor of Science programmes in Bioinformatics, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology among those with subject prerequisites.

For master's, the requirement applies only to applicants who did not receive instruction in English for their bachelor's degree, so an English-medium degree from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal or Nigeria is the usual route past the test. The MBA page says applicants whose earlier degree was taught in English may still be asked for proof of the medium of instruction if deemed necessary.

The master's page warns that some academic units set higher English requirements than 6.0. The MBA is one: it asks 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0, at least three years of full-time work experience, and teaches in English over two academic years.

The master's page lists English-language programmes such as the Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and the Master of Law in International Business Law, alongside MSc programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Financial Technology and Civil Engineering. The application period is 3 August 2026 to 30 April 2027, with fees of MOP 174,000 per programme (MOP 204,000 for FBA programmes) for AY 2026/27 admission.
