If your score is lower
Some UMD applicants must complete coursework through the Maryland English Institute (MEI) before starting their degree, and you are told in your admission decision letter if this applies. The Graduate School page adds that it will not offer Intensive English for Spring 2027.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UMD programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
