How UM handles Duolingo scores

To meet each admission type, the test result must meet or exceed the posted minimum. The graduate page refers applicants to Graduate School Policies A8.200 and A8.300 for exemptions, including a list of exempt countries.

On funding, the graduate page says many programmes do not offer teaching assistantships to first-year students from non-English speaking countries, though some grant research assistantships. Neither page states a Duolingo validity period.

For comparison, the same pages set IELTS at 6.0 for full and 5.0 for pathway undergraduate admission, and 6.5 or 6.0 provisional for graduate study.

If your Duolingo score is below UM's level

Undergraduates with 85 to 104 enter through the Pathway Program. Applicants below 85 may be eligible for conditional admission, and the UM English Language Institute can recommend students as meeting the requirement. Graduate applicants with 120 to 124 can be admitted provisionally.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your University of Montana programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
