How UNC handles TOEFL scores

UNC requires both the overall score and every section score in the table. Tests must be taken within two years of applying, and results must be sent directly from the testing organisation to UNC. The catalog does not give a TOEFL code or a MyBest policy.

For comparison, UNC asks for IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 in each section.

If your TOEFL score is below UNC's level

The catalog lists other accepted evidence, including Cambridge B2 First and a WASSCE English Language grade of B3 or higher taken within two years. It does not describe a conditional TOEFL level in this section.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UNC programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
