What Duolingo score do you need for the University of Notre Dame?

Undergraduate test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency, not uploaded to the applicant portal. The undergraduate page says applicants without access to a TOEFL or IELTS test site are asked to submit the Duolingo English Test instead, and the international FAQ adds that Notre Dame accepts it when other tests are hard to reach or a financial burden.

The Graduate School FAQ says Duolingo scores are valid for two years and that only results on the 160-point scale with subscores are accepted, not the old 100-point version. Self-reported scores are fine for applying, but admission is contingent on official scores sent by the test provider.

For comparison, the same pages give IELTS 7.5 as the strongly recommended undergraduate score and 7.0 as the Graduate School minimum.

The undergraduate figure of 125 is a strong recommendation rather than a published cut-off, and the undergraduate page waives English tests for applicants with 650 or more in SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing or 26 or more in ACT English or Reading. The Graduate School FAQ says applications with a Speaking score below the minimum are still reviewed.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Notre Dame programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
