How uOttawa handles Duolingo results

Official Duolingo results must be sent electronically from Duolingo: share them with the University of Ottawa through the Duolingo dashboard. If you have already applied through OUAC, add your OUAC reference number after choosing University of Ottawa Undergraduate in the sharing flow. Your name, email and date of birth on the test must match your application.

All language tests must be taken less than two years before the term on your application, and only your latest scores are considered. If your score is below the requirement, submit it anyway; to get an updated offer you must retake the same test.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS Academic at 6.5 overall with 6.5 in writing for direct entry.

If your Duolingo score is below 120

Depending on your scores, you may be admitted with language conditions: one or two English as a second language courses during first year, or the English Intensive Program, which takes 8 to 36 weeks of intensive ESL courses before your programme. No separate EIP application is needed. Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) applicants are not eligible for the EIP.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your uOttawa programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
