PTE and other tests
Salford's worldwide list accepts PTE Academic at 59 with no less than 59 in any skill. Its separate table of Secure English Language Tests gives PTE Academic UKVI as 64 with 59 in each skill for the IELTS 6.0 level, so check with admissions which applies to your offer. Online versions of IELTS and PTE, IELTS One Skill Retake and the TOEFL Home Edition are not accepted. Duolingo is not stated by Salford.

Salford accepts these school results as proof of English for Student visa sponsorship without an extra SELT. Its Nigeria page says WAEC or NECO English at C6 or above means you should not need an English test for a bachelor's or master's, though foundation students need a UKVI IELTS. Salford also accepts recent completion, within the past two years, of courses at IIT, IIM and the universities of Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta. A Pakistani school route is not stated by Salford.

Pre-sessional English and the Student visa
Salford's Pre-sessional English needs a conditional offer and UKVI IELTS 4.5 or above. It runs for 10 weeks (five online, then five on the Peel Park campus) or five weeks on campus. If your degree needs UKVI IELTS 6.0 (5.5), the 10-week course takes 5.0 with 4.0 in each skill and the five-week course 5.5 with 5.0. For 6.5 (6.0), the 10-week course takes 5.5 (4.5) and the five-week course 6.0 (5.0).
For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Salford programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
