What IELTS score do you need for the University of Sheffield?

Sheffield accepts IELTS Academic on paper or computer, IELTS for UKVI Academic, IELTS Online and IELTS One Skill Retake scores. It does not accept IELTS Life Skills or General Training. It accepts PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI, but not PTE Academic Online. TOEFL iBT Home Edition is accepted; MyBest scores are not.

Tests should be completed no more than two years before your course starts. Sheffield bases its decision on your most recently awarded English qualification. Course-specific IELTS levels are in each course listing, and most departments can make an offer conditional on reaching the level before you start.

The Duolingo English Test is not in Sheffield's list of accepted tests on these pages: not stated by Sheffield as accepted.

For postgraduate entry, a first degree taught in English in person in a majority native English-speaking country, awarded within five years of your course start, normally needs no other evidence. A degree taught in English elsewhere still needs a test from the list, though Sheffield waives the usual time limits.

Successfully completing a pre-sessional English course at Sheffield's English Language Teaching Centre meets the requirement, if completed no more than two years before your degree starts. The University of Sheffield International College offers International Foundation Year, International Year One and Pre-Masters routes that also meet it.
