What IELTS score do you need for the University of Strathclyde?

PTE Academic Online has not been accepted since 11 August 2023, and non-UKVI PTE Academic since 1 February 2025. Duolingo has been accepted from all nationalities since 13 January 2025. Its notes say IELTS Indicator and the TOEFL Home Edition were not accepted for 2025/26 degree entry.

Strathclyde's country entry requirements give academic grades for India, Pakistan, Nepal and Nigeria but no school-English or degree route in place of a test, so a Standard XII or WAEC English waiver is not stated by Strathclyde. The page says Nigerian WASSCE or NECO results are not normally enough for direct undergraduate entry, and those applicants usually take a foundation programme.

Strathclyde's Pre-sessional Academic English runs online or on campus in 4-week modules, and passing it meets your degree's language condition. For a degree needing 6.0 (5.5), IELTS 5.5 with 5.0 leads to Modules 2 and 3 (8 weeks), 5.5 with 4.5 to Modules 1 to 3 (12 weeks), and lower scores add Foundation modules. The online Modules 1 to 3 from September 2026 cost £6,536.

On-campus pre-sessional students need a SELT for the visa. Applicants at B2 who meet pre-sessional entry can instead use a non-UKVI IELTS or IELTS Online at 5.5 in each component for a single CAS covering both courses.

For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Strathclyde programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
