Glasgow's requirement is on each programme page
Glasgow's English language requirements page says the minimum level for non-native speakers is in the entry requirements of each programme, so there is no single university-wide figure. These examples are from the programme pages as read today:

Which IELTS and PTE versions Glasgow accepts
The undergraduate page accepts IELTS Academic and Academic Online, not General Training, and says IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted. The MSc Space Science page accepts IELTS Academic, IELTS Academic for UKVI and IELTS Academic online. It also accepts TOEFL iBT including MyBest and Home Edition, and Duolingo. It does not accept online PTE Academic, and the MSc TESOL page says the same.
Tests must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of the programme start date, and you must meet the overall and subtest scores in a single test. The Medicine admissions page accepts only Academic IELTS and does not accept TOEFL MyBest scores.
TOEFL minimums are listed separately for tests taken up to 20 January 2026 and from 21 January 2026. For the undergraduate example these are 90 (R20, L19, S19, W21) and 92 (R22, L20, S23, W21); copy the exact line from your own programme page.

For undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, Glasgow says it can make its own assessment of English for the visa. So every English test listed in a programme's entry requirements is suitable, and you do not need IELTS for UKVI.
Pre-sessional courses below degree level are different: they need a UKVI-approved Secure English Language Test, either IELTS (Academic) for UKVI or Trinity College London ISE for UKVI.
Pre-sessional English at Glasgow
If your scores are below entry level, Glasgow's English for Academic Study Unit runs BALEAP-accredited pre-sessional courses. Successful students get direct entry to their programme without retaking IELTS. Glasgow says a pre-sessional result stays valid for 2 years after successful completion.
For postgraduate taught degrees, Glasgow also considers BALEAP-accredited pre-sessionals at universities including Edinburgh, Manchester, UCL, Durham and St Andrews.
Requirements change between intakes. Check the University of Glasgow English language page and your course page before you book a test. Read on 4 October 2026.
