What TOEFL score do you need for the University of Wollongong?

UOW accepts TOEFL iBT but not TOEFL iBT Home Edition. All tests must be taken within two years of your course start date, and official scores must reach UOW before a valid offer can be issued. UOW says it accepts results on either the 1 to 6 or the 0 to 120 scale for admission.

UOW's page adds that the redesigned 1 to 6 TOEFL is not currently accepted for Australian visa purposes, and that TOEFL iBT Australia, reported on the 0 to 120 scale and booked under 'Taking TOEFL for Australia' at a secure test centre, is the TOEFL recognised for visas. Meeting UOW's admission requirement does not guarantee a test is accepted for a visa.

For comparison, the same page sets the Master of Teaching at IELTS 7.5 (7.0 reading and writing, 8.0 speaking and listening) and nursing from 23 April 2026 at IELTS 7.0 (6.5 writing).

Your offer and your visa are separate. Home Affairs says that for a TOEFL iBT result to be valid for Australian visa purposes you must select 'Taking TOEFL for Australia' when you register, and it lists TOEFL iBT Home Edition among the online tests it does not accept (Home Affairs English page).

UOW suggests an English language course at UOW College Australia, and recognises a limited number of English courses at TAFE NSW and other university colleges. The course must be completed within two years of your UOW start date. English courses are not accepted for the Master of Teaching, Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Nursing (Pre-registration) or Doctor of Medicine.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UOW programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
