IELTS scores on UOW course pages
UOW's English language requirements page says minimum scores vary by course. Examples read today: the Master of Computer Science needs IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking. The Bachelor of Business needs 6.0 overall, with 6.0 in reading and writing and 5.0 in listening and speaking.
UOW equivalents: PTE, TOEFL, Cambridge and LanguageCert
Match your course's IELTS score to the other tests. PTE figures are overall and for each communicative skill, and exclude the nursing degrees. TOEFL iBT (0–120) is overall, then reading and writing / listening and speaking. UOW also gives the new TOEFL 1–6 scale, for example 4.5 overall for IELTS 6.5.
| IELTS Academic | PTE Academic | TOEFL iBT (0–120) | Cambridge C1/C2 | LanguageCert Academic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6.0 | 54 (54 each) | 70 (18 / 17) | 169 | 61 |
| 6.5 | 62 (62 each) | 86 (22 / 19) | 176 | 67 |
| 7.0 | 69 (69 each) | 98 (25 / 22) | 185 | 73 |

For tests taken on or after 23 April 2026 that equals PTE 63 (reading 59, writing 60, speaking 76, listening 58) or TOEFL iBT 91. Accepted tests, validity and Duolingo
UOW accepts IELTS Academic, IELTS for UKVI and IELTS One Skill Retake, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency, LanguageCert Academic, OET for selected health courses, and the Duolingo English Test for coursework only. Its Duolingo table goes up to the IELTS 6.0 level (115 overall). IELTS Indicator / IELTS Online, TOEFL iBT Home Edition and PTE Academic Online are not accepted.
Tests must be taken within two years of your course start date. For One Skill Retake, the two years run from the original test date. Apart from One Skill Retake, results from several sittings are not combined.
UOW College runs English language programs, and its English for Tertiary Studies can satisfy course requirements such as the Bachelor of Business.
Requirements vary by course, and UOW can change them between intakes. Always confirm the score on your course page before you book a test. Your student visa has its own English rules, set by the Department of Home Affairs.
