What Duolingo score do you need for the University of York?

York's undergraduate English page lists Duolingo among accepted tests and says your result must be dated no more than two years before your course starts. The postgraduate English page says York must be able to verify your test, it must be taken up to two years before your start date, and you cannot combine scores from more than one sitting or different tests.

The postgraduate equivalencies page also lists Duolingo 105 with 105 in Production for IELTS 6.0 with 6.0 in Writing, and 120 with 120 in Production for IELTS 6.5 with 6.5 in Writing.

For comparison, the IELTS level in each row is the one the same equivalency page pairs with that Duolingo score; York accepts IELTS One Skill Retake for most courses.

If you have taken an accepted test but not met your department's requirement, York says you may be eligible for one of its pre-sessional English language courses, which bring you to the level needed for your degree.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your York programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
