Retakes, validity and pre-sessional rules

Scores must come from one sitting of one test. York's only exceptions are IELTS One Skill Retake and Oxford ELLT Skill Retake, which it accepts for most courses. Your result must be dated no more than two years before your course starts. TOEFL MyBest scores are not accepted, and Duolingo is not accepted for Hull York Medical School postgraduate courses.

If you miss your department's score, York's pre-sessional English courses can bring you up to it. For an on-campus pre-sessional with a Student visa, York accepts only IELTS for UKVI (Academic), Trinity ISE or PTE Academic UKVI.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your York programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
