UPC master's English scores
From the UPC pages for the Master's in Electronic Engineering and the Master's in Urban Mobility. Both state CEFR English B2 and list the same certificates. No IELTS band minimums are given.
| Programme | IELTS | Other tests |
|---|---|---|
| Master's in Electronic Engineering (MEE) | 5.5 | TOEFL iBT 87 (PBT 567, CBT 227); Cambridge FCE; TOEIC 750 |
| Master's in Urban Mobility (taught entirely in English) | 5.5 | TOEFL iBT 87 (PBT 567, CBT 227); Cambridge FCE; TOEIC 750 |
Other ways to show B2
Instead of a test, both pages accept any of these: English is your mother tongue; you studied in an English-speaking country for at least one semester; you took an academic university programme taught in English for at least one semester; or you hold a European Higher Education Area degree that includes English at B2. An Escuela Oficial de Idiomas advanced certificate (level 5) is also listed, and a B2 certificate can be obtained at UPC itself.
The Electronic Engineering page lists intakes in September (40 places) and February (20 places). The Urban Mobility page says English counts towards admission, at 15 per cent of the criteria, only when it is above the minimum level.

Programme differences and how to check
These two pages share a list, but UPC runs many master's programmes through different schools, and each sets its own admission page. Check the page of the exact master's you want for the accepted certificates and any higher level.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UPC programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC BarcelonaTech) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
