What is not accepted, and exemptions
IELTS General Training, TOEFL PBT and ITP are not accepted, and online tests such as IELTS Indicator, IELTS Online and the Duolingo English Test are usually not valid. An IELTS result that includes a One Skill Retake is accepted if the oldest result is within 24 months. Results from different tests cannot be combined.
You are exempt if you completed at least two years of full-time secondary or tertiary study in English within the last four years, in a majority English-speaking country or at a recognised international school, or hold an IB Diploma, AP, GCE A Level or Singapore A Level.

Pathway English and conditional admission
Applicants placed in Pathway English Advanced (rated equivalent to IELTS 6.0) receive conditional admission. They take an eight-week online course in summer or a 15-week course in the first autumn semester. Those who fail must submit IELTS 6.5 or equivalent by the end of the first summer semester. English evidence is due no later than 14 days before teaching starts.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your VinUni programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where VinUniversity publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
