How WKU handles TOEFL scores

Applicants must have official TOEFL or IELTS score reports sent and are responsible for making sure results reach WKU by the deadlines. The graduate catalog requires the TOEFL to have been taken within the past two years. The pages do not give a TOEFL code or a MyBest policy.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

For comparison, WKU asks undergraduates for IELTS 6.0 (5.5 for Pathways) and graduate applicants for IELTS 6.5.

If your TOEFL score is below WKU's level

Undergraduates scoring 61 to 70 can enter the Pathways Program, and completing ESLi at WKU meets the requirement. Graduate applicants can instead complete the English Language Services Program at Level 112 or ESL International, and a graduate programme may grant conditional admission when it judges success likely; conditions must be met within 12 hours of coursework.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your WKU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
