I’d like to talk about an oversized, charcoal grey beanbag chair that sits in the corner of my bedroom. I actually bought it about two years ago from a local homeware shop after moving into a new flat, because I wanted a casual, cosy reading nook rather than a stiff, traditional armchair. It’s filled with tiny memory-foam beads and covered in a plush corduroy fabric, so it essentially moulds to your body whenever you sink into it.
It takes up quite a bit of floor space right next to the bedroom window. I chose that spot deliberately so I could take advantage of the natural daylight during the afternoon, and I’ve set up a small floor lamp beside it for the evenings. Because of its generous size, it almost resembles a mini lounger where I can stretch out with a warm blanket and a cup of tea.
I try to use it pretty much every single evening, usually for around forty-five minutes before I head to sleep. Reading has always been my favourite way to wind down after a hectic day at university, and settling into the beanbag has become a bit of a daily ritual for me. At the weekends, I might spend entire rainy afternoons curled up there, completely lost in a crime novel.
What makes it so exceptionally comfortable is the way it supports your posture without feeling rigid. Unlike a standard desk chair or even a structured sofa, you can easily shift around, lean back, or prop your legs up without losing support. It creates this warm, cocoon-like atmosphere that shuts out distractions, making it the perfect sanctuary for getting lost in a good book.
