I would like to talk about a compact, heavy-duty aluminium torch that I bought a couple of years ago. It is essentially a palm-sized LED flashlight, but it is remarkably sturdy, water-resistant, and emits an incredibly powerful beam for its size. It is rechargeable via a standard USB cable, though it holds its charge for months on end, which makes it ideal for sudden power cuts.

I keep it tucked away in the top drawer of my bedside table, right next to a small power bank. The main reason for storing it there is accessibility; if the electricity cuts out in the middle of the night, I do not want to be fumbling around in pitch-black darkness trying to locate a light source. It is also within arm's reach if I ever need to investigate an unusual noise downstairs.

To be honest, I have not had to rely on it on a daily basis, but it has certainly proved its worth a handful of times. Last winter, during a severe storm, our entire neighbourhood suffered a blackout that lasted for nearly five hours. While most people were quickly draining their mobile phone batteries by using the built-in camera flash, I was able to stand this torch upright on the kitchen counter to illuminate the entire room.

I really consider it an indispensable item because modern smartphones simply are not a reliable substitute during a real crisis. Relying on a mobile phone for light wastes precious battery life that might be needed to make urgent calls. Knowing this dedicated torch is always charged and ready gives me peace of mind whenever the weather turns bad.
