Bellmouth Square Weekend Craft Market: Visitor Information
Skip to the questions ↓About the market
Bellmouth Square Weekend Craft Market brings together more than sixty makers from across the county every Saturday and Sunday from May to September. Everything on sale has been handmade by the person selling it. The market runs from 10 am to 5 pm and entry is free.
Arriving
Visitors come into the square through the old stone archway at the south-west corner. The Information Point is just inside the archway, and staff there can give directions, look after lost property and tell you about the day's events. Moving east along the south side of the square, you will pass the face painting area, which is popular with younger visitors, and then the Jewellery Stalls. In the south-east corner there is a cash machine, although most stallholders also accept cards.
The middle of the square
The Textile Stalls are on the western side of the square, directly north of the Information Point, and sell quilts, knitwear and woven bags. In the centre of the square is the demonstration tent, where makers show how they work; a timetable of demonstrations is displayed outside. The Toilets are on the eastern side, in the old market office.
The north side
The Fountain stands near the top of the square and is a popular meeting place. To its west, filling the north-west part of the square, is the food court, where local producers sell hot food, cakes and fresh juice, with tables under large umbrellas. To the east of the Fountain, in the north-east corner, are the pottery stalls, which have some of the most unusual items at the market.
Good to know
Dogs on leads are welcome, but please keep them away from the food court. The square is cobbled, so pushchairs may need to stay on the paved paths. If it rains heavily, the market may close early, and any changes will be announced at the Information Point and on the market's notice board. The nearest public car park is on Harbour Road, about five minutes' walk away, and the number 12 bus stops just outside the archway every twenty minutes.
