1

Do you think body language is important when communicating?

Absolutely, yes. I think the way someone stands or looks at you often says far more than actual words. For instance, when I had a job interview in Bristol last year, making steady eye contact helped me project confidence and feel much more relaxed throughout the meeting.

2

Are you good at reading other people's body language?

I'd say I'm reasonably decent at it. I usually pick up on subtle cues quite quickly, like crossed arms or fidgeting. Just the other week, I could tell my flatmate was stressed about her university exams simply from her slumped posture at the breakfast table.

3

Do you use a lot of hand gestures when you speak?

Yes, definitely. I tend to talk with my hands quite a bit, especially when I'm passionate about a topic. A colleague actually pointed it out during a team presentation last month because I was moving my arms around constantly to explain a new project design.

4

Did your parents or teachers teach you about body language as a child?

Not formally, to be honest. My parents never gave me lessons on it, but my mother always reminded me not to slouch at the dinner table. It was mainly about showing good manners rather than deliberately analysing non-verbal signals.

5

Do you think body language means different things in different cultures?

Oh, completely. Gestures can be really easy to misinterpret abroad. For example, a simple thumbs-up or direct eye contact can be considered quite rude in certain regions, so I always try to be mindful of local customs whenever I travel on holiday.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
