1

Do you ever share car journeys with other people?

Yes, quite often actually. A couple of colleagues from my office live in the same neighbourhood, so we take turns driving to work during the week. It cuts down our fuel costs and saves us having to navigate heavy traffic alone every single day.

2

Who do you usually travel by car with?

Most of the time, it is just my family or close friends, especially when we are heading out of the city for a weekend break. If it is a weekday commute, though, I tend to share a lift with my co-workers because our schedules match up pretty well.

3

What are the main benefits of carpooling?

Well, saving money on petrol and parking is definitely the biggest perk. On top of that, it is far better for the environment because having fewer vehicles on the road reduces emissions. Plus, having a chat on the way makes a boring commute much more pleasant.

4

Did you ever carpool when you went to school as a child?

Yes, I did. My parents had a rota with two other families on our street. One parent would drive all four of us to primary school in the morning, and another would pick us up in the afternoon. It made life much easier for everyone.

5

Do you prefer driving on your own or sharing a ride with others?

It really depends on my mood, to be honest. If I have had a tiring day, I prefer driving alone so I can just listen to the radio and unwind. But generally speaking, I enjoy sharing a ride because the journey seems to go much faster when you have company.

6

Do you think carpooling will become more popular in your country in the future?

I reckon it will, yeah. Fuel prices are getting quite steep, and traffic congestion in major cities is only getting worse. People are also becoming much more conscious of their carbon footprint, so sharing rides makes total sense practically and financially.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
