1

Have you ever stayed in a cottage?

Yes, a couple of times. Last autumn, my family rented a small stone cottage in the countryside for a weekend break. It was lovely because it had a traditional wood-burning stove and a massive garden, which made it feel really cosy compared to our city flat.

2

Are cottages popular in your country?

Not especially for permanent living, as most people prefer modern houses or blocks of flats close to work. However, holiday cottages are quite sought-after during the summer months, especially along the coast where city dwellers go to unwind for a fortnight.

3

What do you think are the advantages of living in a cottage?

I suppose the main benefit is peace and quiet. Cottages are usually tucked away in rural spots, so there is far less traffic noise and pollution. You also tend to get a bit more outdoor space, which is ideal if you enjoy gardening.

4

Did you visit rural areas or cottages when you were a child?

To be honest, not very often because my parents worked long hours in the city. But I do remember spending a week at my aunt's countryside cottage near the hills when I was about eight, and we spent the whole time exploring the nearby woods.

5

Would you like to live in a cottage in the future?

Maybe when I retire, but definitely not right now. While I love the charm and rustic feel of a cottage, I think I would get frustrated with the lack of public transport and local amenities at this stage in my career.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
