Drawing: questions and Band 8 answers
The examiner asks three to five short questions on two or three everyday topics in the first four to five minutes. These are the 4 questions about drawing in the BandLadder test bank, with sample answers for the most frequent ones. Aim for two or three sentences each: answer, reason, one detail.

Do you like drawing or painting?
I’m quite fond of sketching, actually. It serves as a fantastic creative outlet that helps me de-stress after a long day. I find that focusing on the fine details of a portrait allows me to switch off from my daily responsibilities and just enjoy the process.
How long have you been doing it?
It has been a hobby of mine since I was a young child. I remember spending hours at the kitchen table with my charcoal pencils, trying to replicate the landscapes I saw in books. It became a lifelong passion that I still occasionally revisit during my weekends.
Do you ever draw or paint pictures now?
To be honest, I don’t pick up a brush as often as I used to. My professional schedule is rather demanding, so I usually only find time to doodle in my notebook during meetings or when I am brainstorming new ideas for work projects.
What kinds of things do you like to draw?
My preference is definitely for urban sketching, particularly capturing the architectural character of old buildings. There is something incredibly satisfying about translating complex geometric patterns and intricate stone carvings onto a blank sheet of paper using nothing more than a simple graphite pencil.
