1

Do you often use emojis when you send messages?

Yes, pretty much all the time. Whenever I text my friends or family, I sprinkle a few in because they just make the conversation feel lighter and friendlier. For example, I sent a thumbs-up emoji to my flatmate this morning to confirm our dinner plans.

2

What is your favourite emoji to use?

I'd say the laughing-crying face is definitely my go-to. My sister and I share lots of funny short videos online, and that symbol really captures how hilarious they are better than just typing "haha". I probably send it at least ten times a day.

3

Do you think emojis make messages easier to understand?

Definitely, yes. Plain text can sometimes sound a bit blunt or cold, so adding a small smile helps soften the tone. Just the other day, I asked a colleague for a favour and added a smiley face so it wouldn't sound like a strict demand.

4

Are there any situations where you would not use emojis?

Most certainly. I'd avoid them completely in formal communication, like emailing a university professor or applying for a job. It just looks unprofessional. When I submitted an inquiry about a flat lease last week, I stuck strictly to proper written English.

5

Do you think people will use emojis more or less in the future?

Probably even more, to be honest. Visual communication is expanding so quickly, and new icons are designed every year. I reckon they might evolve into animated stickers or short clips, especially as younger generations prefer quick, expressive ways to chat.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
