Entertainment: questions and Band 8 answers
The examiner asks three to five short questions on two or three everyday topics in the first four to five minutes. These are the 4 questions about entertainment in the BandLadder test bank, with sample answers for the most frequent ones. Aim for two or three sentences each: answer, reason, one detail.
Sample answers
Do you prefer relaxing at home or going out in the evening?
I generally lean towards staying in, especially after a demanding day at work. There is nothing quite like curling up on the sofa with a good book or a series to recharge my batteries. I find that a quiet environment helps me decompress much more effectively than a busy social setting.
When you go out for an evening, what do you like to do?
Whenever I do venture out, I usually opt for a casual dinner with a couple of close friends. We tend to pick places with a lively atmosphere where we can actually hear each other talk. Sharing a meal in a cosy bistro is my absolute favourite way to socialise.
How popular is this with other people in your country?
Dining out is incredibly widespread here; it is essentially the cornerstone of our social culture. Most people love catching up over food, and you will find restaurants packed to the rafters on Friday nights. It is definitely the go-to activity for people of all ages looking to unwind.
Is there any kind of entertainment you do not like?
I must admit that I am not particularly fond of loud, crowded nightclubs. The deafening music and the struggle to navigate through a throng of people feels overwhelming rather than enjoyable. I much prefer activities that allow for genuine interaction instead of just mindless noise.
Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
