1

At what age do people usually retire in your country?

In the UK, the state pension age is around sixty-six at the moment, though it is gradually creeping up. Most people tend to stop working somewhere between sixty and sixty-five, especially if they have managed to build up a decent private pension over the years.

2

Do you know anyone who has recently retired?

Yes, my uncle stepped down from his teaching job just last autumn. To be honest, he has never seemed happier. He spends most of his mornings pottering about in the garden and has even joined a local walking group to stay active.

3

What do retired people in your area like to do?

Well, quite a lot of them spend time doing voluntary work or looking after their grandchildren. There is also a community centre near my flat that organises bowls and coffee mornings, which always seem to be packed with seniors catching up with friends.

4

Would you like to retire early or keep working?

I would definitely prefer to retire early if my finances allow it. Working full-time can be pretty draining, so stepping back in my mid-fifties to travel and pursue creative projects sounds ideal, though I might still do a bit of freelance work here and there.

5

What kind of hobbies would you like to take up after you retire?

I have always wanted to try oil painting, but I just do not have the time right now with my busy schedule. Once I retire, I would love to set up a small studio at home and maybe even take some weekly pottery classes.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
