1

Have you ever been skiing?

Yes, actually, I had a go at it a couple of years ago during a winter holiday in northern Italy. I wasn't particularly graceful on the slopes, to be honest, and I spent quite a lot of time falling over, but it was still thoroughly enjoyable.

2

Is skiing popular in your country?

Not really, mainly because our winters are fairly mild and we rarely get heavy snowfall. Most people who enjoy winter sports tend to travel abroad to places with proper mountain resorts, though it can be quite an expensive hobby to take up.

3

Do people enjoy watching winter sports on television where you live?

I'd say it's a bit of a niche interest. People might tune in during major international events just to see the dramatic downhill races, but on a regular basis, most sports fans prefer following football or tennis instead.

4

What kind of equipment is needed for skiing?

Well, you obviously need the basics like skis, poles, and heavy-duty boots. On top of that, thermal clothing is essential, along with a sturdy helmet and tinted goggles to protect your eyes from the bright glare off the snow.

5

Would you like to go on a ski holiday in the future?

I'd love to, definitely. I really fancy hiring a cosy chalet in the mountains with a few close friends. Even if my technique doesn't improve much, the scenery and the fresh alpine air would be well worth the trip.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
