Summer: questions and Band 8 answers
The examiner asks three to five short questions on two or three everyday topics in the first four to five minutes. These are the 4 questions about summer in the BandLadder test bank, with sample answers for the most frequent ones. Aim for two or three sentences each: answer, reason, one detail.
Sample answers
Is summer your favourite time of year?
Actually, I prefer autumn because the stifling humidity of summer is quite draining. I find the golden light and cooler temperatures of the later months much more pleasant for walking and outdoor photography, whereas the peak of summer often leaves me feeling lethargic and stuck indoors.
What do you do in summer when the weather's very hot?
To cope with the scorching heat, I usually retreat to air-conditioned spaces like public libraries or art galleries. If I have to be outside, I try to stay in the shade and consume plenty of iced beverages, as the high temperatures make any physical exertion feel incredibly exhausting.
Do you go on holiday every summer?
Not necessarily, as I sometimes prefer to use my time off for staycations in the city. While many people flock to the coast during the warmer months, I find it far more relaxing to enjoy the quiet streets and visit local cafes without the usual crowds of tourists.
Did you enjoy the summer holidays when you were at school?
I absolutely loved them because they represented a blissful period of complete freedom from academic pressure. My friends and I would spend long afternoons cycling through the countryside or swimming in the local river, creating memories that I still look back on with a great deal of nostalgia.
