1

Do you often travel through tunnels?

Yes, fairly regularly. My daily commute involves taking the underground railway into the city centre, so I usually spend about twenty minutes underground every morning. There is also a major road tunnel near my flat that I drive through whenever I visit family out in the countryside.

2

How do you feel when you are inside a tunnel?

To be honest, I am completely fine with it, though I know some people feel slightly claustrophobic. As long as the traffic keeps moving, I barely even notice. However, if a train gets stuck in a dark tunnel for too long, it can be a bit unnerving.

3

Are there many tunnels in your hometown?

Not really, because my hometown is built on fairly flat terrain. We have a couple of small pedestrian subways beneath the busiest ring roads, but there are no massive mountain passes or underwater tunnels nearby. You have to travel towards the hillier regions to see those.

4

Did you enjoy going through tunnels when you were a child?

I loved it, actually. Whenever our family car entered a long mountain tunnel during a holiday road trip, my brother and I used to hold our breath to see who could last the whole way through. It felt like a mini adventure every single time.

5

Do you think your country needs more underground roads or railway tunnels?

I suppose so, especially in heavily congested urban areas. Building subterranean transport links takes traffic off the surface, which cuts down on noise pollution and frees up space for parks. It is obviously expensive to construct them, but the long-term benefits are worth it.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
