Volunteering: questions and Band 8 answers

Do you think people are less willing to help others these days compared to the past?

Actually, I believe people are just as compassionate as before, though the way they contribute has shifted. Nowadays, many prefer digital platforms to donate or support causes remotely, which might make their efforts less visible than traditional face-to-face community work in the past.

What do you think are the benefits of having unpaid volunteer workers?

Volunteers are essential because they bridge the gap in services that governments or businesses cannot cover. They provide a vital human touch in sectors like elderly care or animal rescue, allowing organisations to operate with limited budgets while fostering a stronger sense of community cohesion.

Can you give examples of international aid?

Additionally, international aid often involves emergency response teams being deployed to provide clean water, temporary housing, and medical supplies after devastating natural disasters like earthquakes or severe floods.

Do you think international aid, for example from my national government to another is important?

It is absolutely crucial for maintaining global stability and addressing humanitarian crises. When wealthy nations support those in need, it not only saves lives but also fosters diplomatic relationships and addresses the root causes of migration, such as poverty or conflict in unstable regions.

In your view should children be taught to help others?

Instilling a sense of altruism in children is fundamental for raising well-rounded individuals. By encouraging them to assist peers or participate in school charity projects, they develop empathy and social responsibility, which are key traits that shape their character as they transition into adulthood.

How do you think the volunteers themselves benefit?

Engaging in such work allows individuals to sharpen their soft skills, like communication and leadership, while also expanding their professional network through interactions with diverse groups of people.
