Writing: questions and Band 8 answers
The examiner asks three to five short questions on two or three everyday topics in the first four to five minutes. These are the 5 questions about writing in the BandLadder test bank, with sample answers for the most frequent ones. Aim for two or three sentences each: answer, reason, one detail.

Do you enjoy writing?
Actually, I find writing incredibly therapeutic. Whether it is journaling my daily thoughts or drafting creative stories, putting pen to paper helps me organise my mind and express feelings that I might otherwise struggle to articulate verbally.
What age do children normally learn to write in your country?
In the UK, children typically begin to form letters and write simple sentences around the age of five, as they enter their first year of primary school. It is quite a milestone when they start to master the alphabet.
Did you write a lot when you were a child?
I was an avid writer during my childhood, constantly filling up notebooks with imaginative tales and diary entries. My parents often encouraged this habit, which I believe really helped me develop a solid command of the English language.
Do you ever write letters?
Rarely, though I do make an exception for special occasions like birthdays or weddings. There is something quite nostalgic and thoughtful about receiving a handwritten note that you simply cannot replicate with a digital message.
Do you prefer writing letters or sending emails?
For everyday communication, I definitely prefer emails because they are instantaneous and efficient. However, if I want to convey genuine sentiment or offer a formal thank you, I would always choose to write a proper letter instead.
