Number of travellers using three major German airports from 2007 to 2012

Overall, all three airports experienced an upward trend in passenger numbers over the period, with Frankfurt consistently recording the highest volume of travellers by the end of the timeframe. While Frankfurt showed steady growth, Dusseldorf experienced more volatility, and Berlin Tegel saw its figures plateau in the final years.

Frankfurt began the period with 36.5 million passengers and saw consistent annual increases, reaching a peak of 69.3 million by 2012. In contrast, Dusseldorf started at 27.2 million and climbed to a high of 48.2 million in 2009. However, its figures fluctuated thereafter, dropping to 33.2 million in 2011 before recovering to 45.6 million in 2012.

Berlin Tegel recorded the lowest initial figure of 17.3 million in 2007. It experienced rapid growth, reaching 39.9 million by 2009. From 2010 onwards, the number of travellers at Berlin Tegel remained static at 43.3 million per year. By the end of the period, Frankfurt had clearly established itself as the busiest airport among the three, significantly outpacing both Dusseldorf and Berlin Tegel.
