The table illustrates data regarding rail transport across four countries—Malaysia, Canada, China, and the UAE—during the year 2007. The metrics provided include the number of rail passengers, passenger kilometres per capita, and the total cargo carried in billions of tons.
Overall, it is evident that China dominated in terms of passenger-related rail activity, whereas Canada stood out as the primary transporter of cargo despite having minimal passenger rail usage. The remaining countries, Malaysia and the UAE, showed relatively similar figures across all categories.
Regarding passenger transport, China recorded 27 million people using rail services, which resulted in 1980 passenger kilometres per head of population. In stark contrast, Canada reported the lowest figures, with only 0.3 million passengers and 80 kilometres per head. Malaysia and the UAE occupied the middle ground, with 5.9 million and 5.5 million passengers respectively, and passenger kilometres per head of 770 and 780.
In terms of cargo, Canada led the group with 28.20 billion tons carried. China followed with 23.01 billion tons, while Malaysia and the UAE recorded the lowest cargo volumes at 22.2 billion and 21.9 billion tons, respectively.
