Tests Aarhus will not take

Aarhus lists PTE (Pearson), Duolingo, the Oxford Online Placement Test, Trinity ISE III, Euroexam and Michigan Language Assessment as not accepted. It also rejects IELTS General Training, IELTS One Skill Retake, TOEFL ITP, TOEFL Essentials, MyBest scores and paper-based TOEFL, but accepts the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition.

Aarhus verifies every test with the provider. For master's, your IELTS or TOEFL cannot be more than two years old on the day the application portal opens; Cambridge results do not expire and must be shared through the Cambridge Candidate Results website.

Exemptions and deadlines

For master's, you are exempt with an English-taught bachelor's or master's from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA, a bachelor's from a Danish university, or certain upper secondary qualifications such as IB English at Standard Level, the European Baccalaureate, a Nordic or Danish English B, or a high school diploma from those six countries. India, Pakistan and Nigeria are not exempt countries.

Master's applicants must pass the test and upload the result by 15 January (non-EU/EEA/Swiss) or 1 March (EU/EEA/Swiss) for a summer start, or 15 September and 15 October for a winter start. You can apply before you have your result.

Aarhus University's English pages we read do not set a separate English score for the student residence permit. Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Aarhus University programme page and in your admission decision, so check it there before you book a test.
