What IELTS score do you need for Aberystwyth University?

From the postgraduate English requirements page. English Literature and Creative Writing (master's) sits in the 7.0 group but is asterisked on the page, which lists a higher Cambridge score for it (180 in each component), so confirm with admissions. The PG page shows TOEFL only on the old scale.

Aberystwyth's Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh pages give academic grades, not school-English waivers: Pakistan HSSC at 70%, Nepal HSSC at 75%, and Bangladesh HSC at grade A for direct entry, with English shown as IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 (5.5). For the foundation year they require IELTS for UKVI or a Trinity SELT for the CAS. No India page appeared on Aberystwyth's country list when checked, and no Class XII English waiver is published.

Aberystwyth's CAS and deposit page says most applicants who need a CAS "must demonstrate their English language ability with a Secure English Language Test", that the certificate must be no more than two years old, and that you may need a recorded pre-CAS interview. The deposit, where required, is stated in your offer letter.

Its International English Centre dates page lists a 12-week and a 6-week pre-sessional; the Pakistan page says they lift your level by about 1.0 and 0.5 IELTS bands. The 2026 courses ran from 22 June and 3 August; 2027 dates and fees were "to be confirmed" when checked. A pre-sessional report at 50% (60% for 6.5 courses) meets the degree requirement.

For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Aberystwyth programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
