Online tests, validity and sittings

The procedure says PTE Academic Online is not recognised or accepted, along with IELTS Online and TOEFL iBT Home Edition. A test must normally be completed no earlier than two years before your course starts. If you submit English evidence more than once, the most recent is normally assessed.

For the courses marked in the procedure, including nursing and midwifery, test requirements may be met from one sitting or two sittings within 12 months. The same courses used Band F1 (PTE 66 with 66 in listening, reading and speaking and 56 in writing) for tests on or before 22 April 2026. ACU's pages give no Pearson institution code.

ACU's procedure does not list PTE Core. Pearson's PTE Core FAQ says PTE Core is initially only suitable for work and migration visa routes to Canada and that PTE Academic is the test accepted for university study. For comparison, Band B is IELTS 6.0 with 6.0 in writing and speaking, Band C is 6.5 with 6.0 in each, and Band E is 7.0 with 6.5 in each.

If your PTE score falls short

Each band also lists an ACU English Language Test or ACU EAP grade that counts instead of PTE, from C (60 to 62%) for Band A to B (65 to 74%) for Band C, though these are not accepted for the Bachelor of Speech Pathology. ACU's English requirements page also gives a concordance in which IELTS 6.0 equals PTE 50 and 6.5 equals PTE 58.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your ACU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
