Degree taught in English, and what does not count
A completed bachelor's of at least three years, or a master's of at least two years, taught entirely in English counts as proof, but only if the institution is in the EU or EEA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, the UK or the US. The page names no institution in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal or Nigeria, so applicants from there should plan to sit a test. You need official confirmation with the institution's stamp and signature that the whole course was in English.
English-language courses, exchange semesters and study visits do not count. The page does not list PTE Academic, and it sets no separate rules for other cases, so ask BOKU Study Services about anything beyond these routes.

Check your programme before you book
The page applies to degree programmes that require English proof. Its 7.0 figure is higher than many programme pages show, so confirm the figure for your programme with BOKU Study Services, particularly if an older programme page quotes a lower score. Applications before 1 January 2026 were under different rules that the page does not describe.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your BOKU programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where BOKU University (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences), Vienna publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
