How Brandeis handles TOEFL scores

Graduate applicants can submit unofficial or official scores with the application; official scores are needed only if you accept an offer. Scores are valid for up to two years and must be valid when you apply. If yours will expire before your programme starts, send the official score before it expires. The Brandeis TOEFL code is 3122.

Undergraduate applicants for whom English is not the native language should send an English test result, and Brandeis accepts scanned copies of TOEFL score reports.

For comparison, the graduate page recommends IELTS 7.0.

If your TOEFL score is below Brandeis' level

Brandeis reviews graduate applications holistically and encourages applicants who believe their English matches the programme to apply. You may not need a test if you meet a waiver, such as two years of full-time work in the United States within the last four years after your bachelor's degree. Brandeis can still ask for more evidence during review.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Brandeis programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
