What IELTS score do you need for DePaul University?

The College of Computing and Digital Media accepts TOEFL, IELTS (including IELTS Indicator), PTE or Duolingo, plus TOEFL Essentials 8.5. TOEFL, IELTS and PTE scores are valid for two years; old-scale TOEFL scores from before 21 January 2026 are accepted until 20 January 2028. The TOEFL code is 1165. Liberal Arts and Social Sciences treats TOEFL 80 as the university baseline but says most of its graduate programs require more, accepts IELTS or Duolingo in lieu of TOEFL, and offers conditional admission in select disciplines. The College of Communication (all master's except Digital Communication and Media Arts) and the College of Education ask for IELTS 7.5, TOEFL 96 with each section at 22 or Duolingo 130; Education scores must be no more than two years old. CDM waives the requirement once a transcript evaluation verifies a bachelor's or higher from the US or a listed country, including the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria. India and Pakistan are not on the list.

Freshman applicants need IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL 80 or 4 with no section below 17 or 3.5, Duolingo 115, PTE 53, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 540 or ACT Reading 18 and English 20. The TOEFL iBT Home Edition is not accepted. TOEFL, IELTS and PTE scores are valid for two years, SAT and ACT for five. IB English A at 5, AP English Language at 4 and (I)GCSE First Language English at C also waive the test, as do all secondary years in a listed country (not India).
